WASHINGTON: In a major breakthrough in the fight against AIDS, scientists claim to have for the first time shown that human stem cells can be genetically engineered to seek out and kill HIV-infected cells in a living organism. (reference : The Times of India - Science) What do we need to see to know what to make of this? We need to answer the question, in a Phase I trial using a human being will it work the same way it has worked in mice? If it does, we may see some real therapeutic merit in one to two years, but if it does not than it will not be abandoned but we will be back to the drawing board using the new information to modify tweak and try again. We wish them the best of luck, and will be watching to see how this is developing and if Search For A Cure can be of use in helping a new therapy reach our friends. We have now studied carefully a series of ways people could use antivirals to protect themselves and others from getting HIV. One way we now know is to test and treat people, because studies show that people who use antivirals which get the amount of virus they have down very low become not infectious for all practical purposes.

Back around the year 2000, when Search For A Cure was working in Malawi,Africa we had the good fortune to work with a wonderful colleague Ellen McCurley. Ellen went with us to Malawi and participated in the filming of our journey there. Kristen Micho, a journalist at H.E.S., recently was able to interview Ellen about her life and work as a global public health caregiver and advocate. Here you can read her character profile about this valuable asset in the fight against infectious diseses like HIV.

Search For A Cure
The DEBT CRISIS which does not exist has been pumped pushed shoved down the brains of all of us by a bunch of malevolent manipulators and brainwashed morons who toe the Republican party line that seems mostly comprised of stuff that is factually incorrect at best. The reason it is important for all of us to understand the fraud being pushed on us is because it has a purpose that affects us, including money for HIV. It basically says that the USA and Europe owes so much money that they have to cut back on spending and downsize government. Downsizing government has been the desire of right wing nuts for the past two centuries and every action of theirs can be seen as a way to get the public to support cutting the size of government in favor of rich people. For example Scott Brown and other US Senators refusal to continue a tax break for working people, the payroll tax reduction, to avoid taxing millionaires to pay for this. They are against taxes for the rich but they don’t care about everyone else’s taxes—they have supported every increase in taxes for middle class and working people and fought to the death any hint of taxes on millionaires and corporations many of which pay a piddling amount for what we all support like roads and schools and fire departments and public forests and medicines for the sick, and Medicare and social security and AIDS.

Looking at curves can be fun for both the lecherous and mathematicians. With regard to the latter, you sometimes get a clue that something is not being talked about when you check out curves. Something important. I ran across this the other day at a meeting at Harvard about global HIV transmission: the part about the USA broke out how many folks who are black guys are getting HIV, how many black women, white guys and so forth, and it occurred to me that there was a mystery going on.
